Spots, Scars, and Stretch Marks: Lasers Can Treat Them All

While age may bring more wisdom, it can also wreak havoc on your skin as the visible evidence of years gone by begins to make a most unwelcome appearance on the surface of your skin. Before long, your once-smooth skin is increasingly mottled with age spots, scars, stretch marks, and more.

At Marion Ob/Gyn Inc., under the expert guidance of Dr. David W. Foulk, our goal is to provide our patients in Marion, Ohio, with the most effective tools for fighting back against aging skin. As we researched the options in laser skin care, we found one system that offered incredible results because of its unique versatility in delivering different wavelengths to tackle all manner of skin problems.

Called the Sciton® ProFractional™, it gives us the ability to refresh and rejuvenate your skin, tackling the most common problems, from stretch marks to age spots. Here’s a look at how this exciting technology works.

The fractional approach explained

There’s no shortage of tools in the laser skin care field, and the information can be confusing. With words like ablative, non-ablative, fractional, wavelengths, and so on, many people are left confused about which option is best for their skin.

We’ve done the research for you and settled on the Sciton system because of its fractional approach to skin care. What fractional means is that instead of sending laser energy over the entire surface of your skin, the Sciton delivers the energy through tiny microchannels that it creates across the surface of your skin.

This network of microchannels allows us to keep your epidermis intact while we deliver the collagen-synthesizing energy into your dermis. As your body responds to the microchannels, filling them with renewed support in the form of cell renewal and collagen, the entire surface of your skin benefits from the new matrix of support from below.

How Sciton works on age spots

When we deliver the laser energy into your skin, using the right wavelength to tackle your particular skin concerns, the energy is absorbed by your melanin as heat, which causes the areas of hyperpigmentation to rise to the surface and flake away.

This approach not only tackles the sun spots that you do see, but any developing areas of hyperpigmentation that haven’t risen to the surface yet.

Using Sciton on scarring

With our Sciton laser, we can deliver laser energy into scarring and stretch marks to break apart the collagen fibers in these tough adhesions. But because we can control the energy we deliver, we ensure that we use just enough to break old tissue apart without creating another scarring response in your skin.

Instead, we create a mild healing response in which collagen synthesis and skin cell renewal gradually rebuild your skin without scarring, leaving you with a smoother surface.

A jack of all trades

While we’ve concentrated on age spots and scarring in this blog, we should mention that we can also use our Sciton laser system on other skin concerns, including:
