Help for Your Crepey Skin

Are you tired of certain areas of your skin looking more like tissue paper than the smooth, toned skin you once had? Crepey skin is perfectly natural and part of the aging process, but we have new ways to fight back.

Our team here at Marion Ob/Gyn, under the leadership of David Foulk, MD, is on a mission to help our patients feel and look their best.

Alongside our comprehensive OB/GYN services, we also offer an aesthetics branch using the latest laser technologies available, including the ProFractional™ laser system by Sciton and TempSure™ Envi.

If you want to breathe new life into crepey skin, here’s how laser technology answers the call.

Behind the crepey skin

Before we get into our exciting laser skin renewal technology, let’s first take a look at what causes crepey skin.

When we refer to crepey skin, we’re talking about areas of your skin that have thinned and are no longer as toned as they once were. Most often, this type of skin first appears in your hands, on your chest, and around your eyes and mouth, which is where skin is already thinnest.

If you think of your skin like a rubber band, it helps to understand what’s happening. When a rubber band is new, you can stretch it over and over and it bounces back each time. But with time, the rubber begins to break down and crack. It no longer stretches and bounces back to its original form.

The same thing happens in your skin, thanks to two primary forces.

The first is exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which breaks down the connective fibers in your skin and damages skin cells. The second is the natural loss of collagen and elastin, which are the proteins responsible for the elasticity and support in your skin.

Getting that bounce back

The reason we offer two different types of lasers is that we can tackle epidermis concerns such as areas of hyperpigmentation, as well as deeper concerns in your dermis like a lack of structural support.

To address crepey skin, we can turn to TempSure Envi, which is a nonablative system in which we deliver energy into your dermis to heat up the tissue below, causing a mild healing response.

Part of this response is renewed collagen production, which is your body’s way of protecting and strengthening its outer shield (your skin). This treatment is noninvasive, and there’s no downtime afterward, which means you’re free to get on with your day.

If you want to resurface your crepey skin and rebuild from below, we can use our ProFractional laser, which creates tiny microchannels to break up surface concerns, while also delivering therapeutic heat into your dermis.

You may experience some redness in the treatment areas if you choose this type of procedure, but it’s usually short-lived.

Most of our patients realize optimal results with a series of laser treatments, which we space apart to allow time for your skin to rebuild itself from below.

As your renewed collagen production continues, your crepey skin begins to smooth out, and you’re rewarded with skin that has more elasticity and tone.

If you’d like to banish your crepey skin, contact our office in Marion, Ohio, to schedule your laser treatments.
