Everything You Should Know About Laser Skin Renewal

Does it seem like every time you look in the mirror you see a new wrinkle, spot, or other blemish marking the passage of time on your once-clear face? Do you long for that smooth, even complexion you once took for granted?

While there’s not much we can do to stop the forward march of time, we can undo some of the damage through our innovative laser skin renewal services.

If you want to hit the reset button on your skin, David Foulk, MD, and our team here at Marion Ob/Gyn have done their homework and chosen a versatile laser skin renewal system that addresses a wide range of cosmetic concerns.

Here’s a closer look at this exciting technology, called Sciton®, and how it can dial back the years on your skin.

Two approaches to skin renewal

One of the primary reasons we chose Sciton’s laser is its versatility in tackling both surface issues and the loss of structural support deeper in your tissue. The laser features different wavelengths, allowing us to adjust the treatments to meet your goals.

For example, if age spots, acne scarring, facial veins, fine lines, or rosacea have made their marks across the surface of your skin, we can first turn to a full-field treatment.

Using Sciton’s MicroLaserPeel®, we remove the outermost layer of your skin to eliminate superficial irregularities, such as the ones we mention above.

If you’re also concerned with sagging skin, we can turn to Sciton’s ProFractional™ system, which delivers energy deeper into your tissue to encourage more structural support from below.

Unlike our full-field treatment, the ProFractional approach creates a matrix of tiny microchannels across the surface of your skin, which leaves much of your tissue unharmed.

Instead, these microchannels elicit a mild healing response in your skin. This healing response comes in the form of renewed collagen production, which fills in the network of channels, lifting the entire surface of your skin.

For dramatic results, many of our patients combine these two treatments to target skin concerns from above and below.

Your laser skin renewal timeline

If you opt for a full-field treatment only, we can get the job done in one visit. After your MicroLaserPeel, you need to protect your skin as it sheds the old, damaged cells, and newer, healthier skin cells take their place.

We hesitate to call this period “downtime,” because you’re still able to keep up with your daily routine, but your skin may not look its best immediately following your resurfacing. In a week or two, you’re able to show off a youthful complexion that’s free from blemishes.

If you’re opting for our ProFractional treatment, you may need to undergo a series of treatments. The good news is that there’s no downtime after each session as your skin is remodeling itself beneath the surface. In the weeks following your treatment, your skin gradually lifts and tightens from below thanks to renewed collagen support.
